His Excellency Abdullah bin Touq Al Mari, Minister of Economy and Tourism and Chairman of the Supreme Consumer Protection Committee, has affirmed that retail outlets in the United Arab Emirates are abundant with a variety of goods sufficient to meet consumer needs. The markets are characterized by the availability of diverse product options and services supported by stable supply chains, which contribute to a wide range of pricing choices for consumers and bolster the strategic stock levels of various products, particularly food and pharmaceuticals
This statement was made during an extensive visit to the Carrefour distribution center, where he was welcomed by Ahmed Galal Ismail, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Holding, along with several company leaders. The aim of the visit was to ensure the ample availability of food products for consumers and to enhance market oversight while continuously monitoring the strategic stock levels in the nation
During the visit, he inspected the supply and logistics operations for food items at the center, exploring vital sections including shipment reception and quality checks, safety procedures, handling of fresh and essential products, and inventory management systems to ensure the efficient and continuous availability of products
His Excellency held a meeting with the company’s leadership to discuss supply and distribution plans, especially in light of the current crisis. They addressed the role of local partnerships in enhancing supply chain efficiency and the processes in place for online order fulfillment and delivery services, ensuring timely and efficient product delivery to consumers
Abdullah bin Touq stated: “The major distribution centers in the country play an essential role in supporting the national food security system, ensuring price stability of goods and a seamless flow of products into the markets, thereby reinforcing the UAE’s position as a leading regional hub for food industries and advanced logistics services”
He also highlighted that operations at the center are functioning normally in accordance with strategic plans, reflecting the high readiness of the country’s strategic stock and ensuring that essential goods remain available in retail outlets without shortages or price fluctuations
Furthermore, Abdullah bin Touq noted that the ministry, in collaboration with relevant authorities, monitors stock levels at suppliers and distribution centers daily, conducting thorough analyses to ensure adequate supply of essential items. This supports proactive decision-making to maintain market stability and pricing, thereby enhancing the sustainability of the nation’s food security system
