British banker Percy Hunter shared that he relocated to Dubai three years ago after a distinguished career in the banking sector, including a tenure at Goldman Sachs.
In a message published on eFinancialCareers, he affirmed his commitment to remaining in Dubai despite the existing geopolitical tensions in the region.
He emphasized that only those who live in Dubai truly grasp the essence of life there, stating that once you live and work in the city for a year, you will marvel at how you once thought its allure might fade.
Quality of Life
According to Hunter, when British residents are asked why someone might choose to move to Dubai, their answers typically revolve around the weather and tax benefits. This response is telling, reflecting the realities of life in the UK, where people often bemoan the weather and the tax burden—complaints that are entirely justified.
However, he believes that if you pose the same question to a Brit who has lived in Dubai for several years, their answer will not focus on “weather and taxes.” Instead, they will invariably discuss “quality of life,” noting that it is much easier to achieve a considerably higher standard of living across various fields and sectors in Dubai.
Institutional Foundations
Hunter pointed out that the factors contributing to the exceptional experience of living in Dubai are numerous, primarily rooted in a profound emotional sentiment: “The quality of life my partner, family, and I enjoy is vastly better than I ever imagined possible or could have achieved had I remained in the UK. My only regret is not having made the move sooner.” He noted that he has heard this sentiment echoed countless times.
He concluded his message by stating, “The vast majority of elements that make life in Dubai wonderful are structural and institutional, factors that will endure through any transient geopolitical disturbances. This is the main reason I continue to invest in property in Dubai, unperturbed by discussions surrounding falling prices. Life here is incredible, and the daily reality is vastly different from the images portrayed in the outside world.”
