UAE in 2026: Global Projects and Investments Paving the Way for a Clean Energy Future

The United Arab Emirates continues to position itself as a global hub for clean energy investment and sustainable solutions through a series of projects that have been funded and are set for implementation in 2026 by various national companies specialized in this field.

These initiatives exemplify the UAE’s commitment to providing sustainable and reliable energy solutions to tackle global energy challenges. The announced project roadmap spans densely populated continents (Asia, Africa, and Europe), enhancing both its economic returns and its positive environmental impact by reducing carbon emissions and addressing climate change challenges.

In January, the UAE adopted a guideline for digital sustainable services in the federal government, aimed at promoting renewable energy, leveraging advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and cloud computing, and incorporating eco-friendly practices in IT operations.

At the 2026 World Government Summit, the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy unveiled a self-supply policy for photovoltaic (solar) energy, enabling the use of smart and flexible solutions for clean energy generation, storage, and consumption. This initiative will empower the agricultural sector, including farms and estates in Abu Dhabi, to rely on renewable energy sources, supporting the emirate’s goals of creating a sustainable and efficient energy system.

Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar” announced its collaboration with “Elite Agro,” a reputable global player in agriculture and food production, to launch the first agrivoltaic solar project in the Middle East and North Africa region at Elite Agro’s Al Foah farm in Al Ain, Abu Dhabi. This project is expected to serve as a scalable model for sustainable agriculture and the integration of renewable energy solutions in the region.

This announcement comes as the country’s installed renewable energy capacity has surpassed 7.7 gigawatts, with ongoing projects set to increase total capacity to over 23 gigawatts by 2031. Moreover, renewable energy capacity in the UAE has grown by 117% from 2022 to 2025, reflecting the effectiveness of national policies and the accelerated execution of strategic projects aimed at developing a more sustainable and efficient energy system.

Globally, Masdar epitomizes the UAE’s leadership in clean energy, with a total investment portfolio reaching 65 gigawatts as of January, on its path to achieving a target of 100 gigawatts by 2030.

In 2026, Masdar launched several strategic global projects, including the development of the 150-megawatt Kweboongo solar project in Angola under the “Royal Sable” program, which contributes to stabilizing the electricity grid, supports sustainable development, serves approximately 300,000 homes, and creates over 2,000 job opportunities.

Masdar also secured financial closure on the 300-megawatt Guzar solar project in Uzbekistan, which includes a 75-megawatt hour battery storage system, as part of international investments exceeding $2 billion.

Additionally, Masdar signed a memorandum of understanding with RWE to enhance the reliance on renewable energy sources and develop the energy system in Germany and across Europe. Under this agreement, both companies will continue to invest and explore opportunities in energy storage battery systems in Germany, with a target of reaching 1 gigawatt capacity by 2030, alongside collaborating on developing battery storage systems aiming for 1 gigawatt capacity by 2035.

Masdar and Total Energy have entered into a binding agreement to form a partnership, each holding a 50% stake valued at $2.2 billion. This partnership will integrate their terrestrial renewable energy projects across nine countries in Asia.

While Masdar is actively engaged in these initiatives, Global South Utilities, a subsidiary of Resources Investment, is enhancing the UAE’s presence in the clean energy sector internationally and regionally through innovative projects that contribute to global energy transformation.

The company announced the launch of a 5-megawatt solar power plant in Berbera, Horn of Africa, as part of the “Green Berbera” vision, aimed at transitioning from diesel reliance to a renewable energy system supported by energy storage solutions, ensuring clean electricity for hundreds of homes and economic activities, while reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy security in the region.

Global South has entered into a strategic industrial partnership with the Chinese company Weichai, a manufacturer of energy storage battery systems, to promote local manufacturing of advanced clean energy technologies in Abu Dhabi, supporting the UAE’s industrial development goals, energy sector transition, and strengthening supply chains focused on global south markets.
