Pakistan Super League: Season Shifted to UAE Due to India-Pakistan Strain

A representative from the Pakistan Cricket Board has informed that a drone malfunctioned, resulting in an explosion on a street near the stadium in Rawalpindi. However, this information remains unverified by external sources.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is currently exploring various options for the remaining matches of the tournament, including a potential pause in the event for several weeks.

Details regarding the schedule for the upcoming matches, including specific dates and venues in the UAE, are still pending confirmation.

Players participating in the PSL, including those from England, convened for an urgent meeting organized by the event’s officials. Among the English players present were James Vince, Chris Jordan, Tom Curran, David Willey, Sam Billings, Luke Wood, and Tom Kohler-Cadmore, alongside several English coaches associated with different teams.

While the PSL organizers are eager to complete the tournament, which has eight matches still to play, the safety of the players is their highest priority. A senior official from the PCB expressed concerns, stating that if Rawalpindi is deemed unsafe, major cities like Lahore and Karachi are equally at risk due to similar threats.

The seven English players engaged in discussions regarding their potential return to the UK, revealing differing opinions on whether to stay or leave. Conversations took place with the Professional Cricketers’ Association to address their concerns, indicating a variety of sentiments among those on-site.

Other prominent international players involved in the PSL include Australian David Warner, playing for Karachi Kings, and former West Indies captain Jason Holder, representing Islamabad United.

Currently, the UK foreign office restricts all but essential travel near the international border between Pakistan and India.

Meanwhile, an IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals commenced as scheduled in Dharamsala but was halted after 10.1 overs due to power outages affecting the floodlights. Subsequently, the upcoming match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians has been relocated from Dharamsala to Ahmedabad.

Dharamsala, located in Himachal Pradesh, shares a border with Kashmir, and flights to its airport were canceled on Wednesday, complicating travel plans for the Mumbai Indians.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) released a statement explaining that the venue change was necessary due to logistical issues.

Last month, twenty-six civilians lost their lives in Indian-administered Kashmir, leading to India accusing Pakistan of backing the militants behind the incident—a claim that Pakistan has denied.

Tensions escalated when India initiated a series of military actions referred to as “Operation Sindoor” on Tuesday evening.
