According to Eric Samuel, associate director at IDC, “The UAE-US AI campus presents an exceptional chance for regional organizations to focus on low-latency AI applications and enhance immediate decision-making capabilities.” He also highlighted that the combination of nuclear, solar, and gas power ensures a reliable and sustainable computing infrastructure.
The recently launched “US-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership” seeks to strengthen technological collaboration between the two nations while mitigating US concerns regarding the influence of China. The UAE has been proactive in advancing its AI initiatives, appointing a Minister for AI back in 2017 and establishing its own AI university in 2019.
Strategic advantages of the Gulf’s AI hub
Covering an area of 10 square miles, the AI campus in Abu Dhabi is poised to become a center for innovation, focusing on finance, energy, and healthcare tailored to the GCC region. It aims to develop large language models suited to local needs and foster domain-specific advancements. In addition, a specialized science park will be created to boost research and development, and its hybrid energy framework may provide a sustainability advantage.
