Raising Awareness Among Emirati Students in China About Job Opportunities

The Ministry of Finance, in partnership with the UAE Consulate in Shanghai and the New Development Bank, organized an informative session for Emirati students studying in China. This initiative, part of the “Global Emirati Cadres” program, focused on employment and training opportunities within multilateral organizations and the potential for building a career in the international financial sector. This reflects the UAE’s commitment to enhancing the presence of its national workforce in international financial institutions and raising awareness among Emirati students about global financial job opportunities.

The session, held at the New Development Bank in Shanghai, was attended by Mahand Sulaiman Al Naqbi, the UAE Consul General in Shanghai, Thuraya Hamad Al Hashimi, Director of International Financial Relations and Organizations at the Ministry of Finance and Board Member of the New Development Bank, and Qianwu Zhou, Vice President and Managing Director of the New Development Bank, alongside various bank officials.

Empowering Talents

Ali Abdullah Sharafi, Assistant Undersecretary for International Financial Relations (acting), stated: “At the ministry, we aim to create interactive environments that bring together young Emirati talents and influential international institutions to inspire our national capabilities. Such meetings provide a direct window into the working reality of multilateral organizations, allowing students to gain insights into real-life experiences and promising career paths. We believe that developing competent Emirati personnel on the global stage starts with investing in knowledge and communication, which is the goal of these unique initiatives.”

Bridging Connections

Mahand Sulaiman Al Naqbi emphasized that the session represents a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Finance and UAE diplomatic missions to support the youth of the nation and prepare them for excellence on the international scene. He noted that the “Global Emirati Cadres” initiative extends the UAE’s diplomatic approach in building effective communication bridges between Emirati students and influential global institutions. The goal is to inspire students and encourage them to explore new horizons in the international financial sector, thereby enhancing their contributions to both the national and global economies.

The session began with a welcoming speech by Qianwu Zhou, who praised the ongoing cooperation between the bank and the UAE, highlighting the keen interest and awareness displayed by Emirati students in the field of international work. Zhou remarked, “We are pleased to host this awareness session, which reflects the high level of engagement among Emirati students regarding international careers. Investing in young talents is a priority for us, and such meetings provide an opportunity to introduce the next generation to rewarding career paths in multilateral organizations, enhancing diversity and efficiency in our future workforce.”

Informative Presentations

The session included a presentation on the significance of the “Global Emirati Cadres” initiative and its role in enabling national talents to access employment and training opportunities in leading international financial institutions. This is achieved through the provision of informational programs, specialized knowledge content, and effective partnerships with organizations like the New Development Bank. The ministry also outlined its efforts in creating a supportive environment to facilitate the integration of Emirati personnel into international financial institutions by providing necessary assistance with application processes, secondments, and training programs.

Additionally, the session featured presentations by bank representatives discussing employment mechanisms and professional development opportunities within these institutions, including key programs aimed at young talents, application processes, acceptance requirements, and desired specializations. Participants actively engaged, asking questions regarding application conditions, required specialties, and the work environment within the bank.
