385,774 National and International Brands Registered in the UAE

The Ministry of Economy and Tourism has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the UAE Intellectual Property Association to enhance collaborative efforts in launching a specialized training program for trademark registration agents in the country. This initiative aims to equip them with essential skills and knowledge, allowing them to obtain accreditation that qualifies them to represent clients in trademark registration processes, in accordance with Ministerial Decision No. 90 of 2024 concerning the regulation of trademark agents.

The number of registered trademarks in the nation continues to grow steadily, currently totaling 385,774 national and international trademarks in the UAE markets, along with 388 trademark registration agents by the end of May this year. This trend underscores the UAE’s appeal as a regional and global hub for trademarks and a competitive, innovative business environment.

The agreement was signed by Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, and Major General Dr. Abdulqadoos Abdulrazzaq Al Obedli, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Excellence and Leadership at Dubai Police and Chairman of the UAE Intellectual Property Association, in the presence of Dr. Abdulrahman Hassan Al Muaini, Assistant Undersecretary for the Intellectual Property Sector at the Ministry of Economy.

Abdullah Al Saleh stated, “The Ministry of Economy is dedicated to advancing the regulatory and legislative frameworks for the intellectual property sector, recognizing it as a vital component that strengthens the growth and competitiveness of the national economy.”

He added, “This new partnership with the UAE Intellectual Property Association represents a significant step in enhancing the efficiency of trademark registration offices in the country, increasing their numbers according to the best practices, and facilitating the registration processes while delivering distinguished services to trademark owners.”

Major General Dr. Abdulqadoos Abdulrazzaq Al Obedli remarked, “We take pride in this constructive collaboration with the Ministry of Economy to provide a high-quality training program that supports the nation’s efforts in developing qualified national personnel in the field of intellectual property.”

The program will be executed through the Dahy Khalfan Intellectual Property Center, accredited locally by the Dubai Knowledge and Human Development Authority and internationally through our collaboration with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), ensuring professional training in line with international standards.
