The General Authority of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia announced on Sunday that a consortium led by Air Arabia, which includes three companies, has been awarded the launch and operation of a new low-cost national airline in Saudi Arabia, designated as an “economic national carrier.”
The new airline is set to operate domestic and international flights from King Fahd International Airport in Dammam.
In a statement shared on the X platform, the authority highlighted that this initiative aligns with the objectives of the aviation program derived from the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. The establishment of Air Arabia’s consortium as a national economic carrier at King Fahd International Airport aims to enhance air connectivity in the Eastern Region, increase seat capacity, and provide more competitive options for travelers.
The announcement detailed that the consortium comprises Air Arabia, KAN Holding, and the Nesma Group. Furthermore, the new economic national carrier is projected to serve 24 domestic destinations and 57 international locations, with the goal of facilitating approximately 10 million passengers annually by 2030.
