Dnata Travel, one of the leading travel service providers in the UAE, has reported a significant increase in international trip bookings as travelers look to secure last-minute summer vacations. Recent data indicates a 12% rise in July bookings compared to last year for travel in August and September, reflecting a growing enthusiasm for city getaways, escapes to cooler climates, and relaxation on nearby islands.
France topped the July booking list, aligned with its peak tourism season, according to the latest booking data from the company. While UAE residents are accustomed to hot weather year-round, many are opting for summer destinations with unique warm climates, making France a popular choice as its peak season in August brings vibrant city life, milder evening temperatures, and a plethora of cultural events.
The Maldives secured the second position, maintaining its steady presence on the travel agenda from the UAE. Meanwhile, both Thailand and Turkey retained their status as favored destinations during this time of year. A surprising addition to the top five was Austria, which saw an influx of travelers seeking refreshing environments and outdoor experiences.
Mira Ktait, Head of Tour Sales at Dnata Travel, stated, “Travelers from the UAE have become more discerning in their choices. They know exactly what they want for their holidays, whether it be a temperate climate, a rich experience in a lively city, or a nearby destination for relaxation. The priority for them is to make the most of their time away from the daily routine.”
Data shows that city vacations are the most popular choice among UAE residents this summer, followed by family trips and traditional beach holidays, reflecting a strong desire for travel filled with experiences, whether it’s a weekend in Vienna or a few days exploring Tokyo.
While most travelers continue to book their trips two to three months in advance, Dnata Travel notes a growing interest in last-minute deals. An increasing number of residents are adopting more flexible travel schedules, preferring spontaneous offers and bookings just two to three weeks before departure. In line with this trend, Dnata Travel recently launched the “Secret Stays Maldives” experience, where a resort is pre-selected by the Dnata travel team, and its name is disclosed only after booking confirmation, adding a surprise element to the travel experience.
Ktait added, “This type of travel signifies a shift in mindset, as some people embrace the element of surprise and find it enjoyable, especially when they trust the quality of what they will receive. For them, the spirit of adventure is an integral part of the experience.”
In addition to the popular destinations, bookings to Greece, the Czech Republic, Japan, and Canada have also seen growth for August and September. These countries offer a blend of pleasant weather, culturally rich cities, and seasonal experiences, encouraging travelers to explore new locations.
