“KI 2 Think” Positions the UAE at the Forefront of the AI Race

The UAE is reinforcing its position as a leading nation in the global artificial intelligence race with the introduction of the new “K2Think” model, considered a significant milestone in the country’s technological advancement. This achievement showcases how collaboration among academic, governmental, and private sectors can lead to groundbreaking innovations, placing the UAE at the forefront of the global AI landscape. The project is described as a “real turning point” in the UAE’s digital journey, reflecting a national commitment to investing in the future through open innovation and sustainable development.

The new model falls under the category of inference-focused artificial intelligence and is both open-source and advanced in terms of performance and efficiency. Developed by Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence in partnership with G42, it boasts the ability to deliver results comparable to much larger models while using significantly fewer resources.

K2Think represents a new generation of models that combine high efficiency with user-friendliness, enabling developers and researchers worldwide to access advanced technologies without needing extensive infrastructure. This opens up opportunities for practical applications in various fields such as healthcare, education, energy, and governmental services, all while minimizing the need for substantial computational resources.

Global Models
What sets K2Think apart from other global models is its lightweight and intelligent design, featuring inferential capabilities that can match, or even exceed, those of models ten times its size. This advantage allows it to operate in more flexible environments at a lower cost. In the context of artificial intelligence, inference refers to using a pre-trained model to generate new outputs based on input data; in simpler terms, it’s the “thinking” or reasoning performed by the model.

Pioneering State
The launch of an open-source inference model at this level means that developers and researchers worldwide can use, modify, and apply it to their projects, fostering an unprecedented atmosphere of innovation. Furthermore, the introduction of this model enhances the UAE’s status as a trailblazer both regionally and globally, positioning it within elite competition alongside the largest global models. The UAE has become one of the first countries to provide such a powerful open-source model, placing it at the forefront of international efforts to develop more transparent and widely adoptable artificial intelligence.

K2Think is expected to serve as a foundation for future innovations, ranging from advanced data centers to AI applications in smart cities, aligning with the UAE’s vision for digital transformation. It is also anticipated to contribute to the development of a new generation of national talents capable of leading the upcoming phase of global technological advancement.
