Rashid Abdullah Bin Hwaiden, Chairman of the Financial, Economic, and Industrial Affairs Committee in the Sharjah Consultative Council, noted the significant increase in the establishment of shopping malls in various new areas. He highlighted that this expansion not only stimulates commercial activity but also supports the national economy by providing new job opportunities and attracting both local and foreign investments, thus promoting comprehensive economic development.
He also mentioned that these new shopping centers cater to the needs arising from population growth, playing a vital role by offering a wide array of products and services, especially in emerging areas, which ensures resident satisfaction and enhances quality of life.

Moreover, with technological advancements, shopping malls in the UAE are integrating modern technologies to enhance the shopping experience, including the use of smart applications and electronic payments, which streamline the shopping process for visitors.
Shopping Activities
Bertrand Loomi, CEO of Retail Sector at (Adcoob), reported that the group encompasses six retail brands: Al Ain Cooperative, Irth, Al Dhafra Cooperative, Abu Dhabi Cooperative, Dalma Cooperative, along with Mega Mart, having launched a unified identity for all of them.
He added that the Adcoob network has expanded to more than 100 outlets across Abu Dhabi, strengthening its status as one of the largest retail networks in the UAE.
Bertrand Loomi further noted that the opening of branches by well-known shopping centers in new areas illustrates the substantial increase in shopping activity within the UAE.
Urban Development
He stated that the country is characterized by rapid urban development, with significant expansions in new regions across various emirates, highlighted by the opening of a new Adcoob branch in Khalidiya Park.
This expansion reflects the group’s commitment as a comprehensive destination grounded in over four decades of consumer trust, reinforcing its rich legacy while envisioning a bright future for retail in the UAE.

Nanda Kumar, Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager for LuLu Group, affirmed that the UAE offers an attractive environment for investments in the shopping sector.
He explained that shopping centers contribute to urban development by providing comprehensive infrastructure that includes shopping and entertainment facilities, which aids in improving the quality of life in urban and residential areas. Shopping malls are regarded not only as shopping venues but also as leisure spaces, enhancing local economic activity.
Nanda Kumar disclosed that LuLu Group has opened nine new shopping centers across various emirates in 2025.
Additionally, he highlighted the recent opening of the latest LuLu Express store in Nad Al Hamar, Dubai, bringing the total number of the group’s branches in Dubai to 29 and 112 in the UAE overall, marking the 260th store for the group across the GCC. The new expansions underscore the group’s strong financial performance in the first half of 2025.
Expansion Plans
Regarding the future of shopping centers in the UAE, Nanda Kumar confirmed ongoing expansion plans with a focus on providing comprehensive shopping and entertainment experiences.
He mentioned that the group has plans to broaden its retail centers across various emirates, indicating 18 projects underway in Abu Dhabi, with further initiatives in Al Shamkha, Habshan, Riyadh City, Yas, Bani Yas, Al Neam, and additional projects planned for 2027 and beyond.
Nanda Kumar concluded that the expansion of shopping centers enhances the UAE’s reputation as a leading global destination for trade and tourism.
