President Sheikh Mohamed meets Kurdistan Prime Minister

President Sheikh Mohamed held talks with Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Abu Dhabi. During the meeting at Qasr Al-Shati on Sunday, the leaders focused on the strong ties between the UAE and the semi-autonomous Kurdish region of Iraq, reported by The National.

Sheikh Mohamed and Mr Barzani also explored ways to enhance cooperation in various sectors and exchanged views on several issues and topics of mutual interest. In a post on X, Mr Barzani said he discussed “developments in the region” with the UAE president.

Aziz Ahmad, Mr Barzani’s deputy chief of staff, also took to X to announce that the prime minister would make other “regional stops,” without giving details. He will then lead a delegation to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, next week.

UAE a strong partner for Kurdistan

“The regional talks focused on the situation in Syria, developments in the region and bilateral relations” between the two countries, Mr. Ahmad wrote. The UAE has been a strong partner for Kurdistan, and trade between the two sides has deepened in recent years.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Teab bin Mohamed, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Martyrs; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Cases; Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoun, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court, as well as several sheikhs, ministers and senior officials.
