His Excellency emphasized that in alignment with the UAE’s vision of fostering collaborative partnerships as a fundamental pillar for growth, Masdar continues to engage in establishing strategic partnerships, working together, and exploring new investment opportunities, enhancing energy systems, and supporting sustainable development pathways worldwide.
He reiterated that energy is essential for building strong and stable economies and supporting the growth and prosperity of communities, acting as a driver that empowers the world to confidently and steadily advance toward a prosperous future.
Since its inception in 2006, Masdar has implemented ambitious plans rooted in knowledge and excellence in developing and executing renewable energy projects both regionally and globally, with a focus on innovative solutions.
Innovative Solutions
This approach is exemplified by the company’s leadership in executing a series of unique projects that have pushed the boundaries of innovation and solidified the UAE’s status as a global hub for clean energy development and deployment. The vision relies on cultivating national capabilities in the renewable energy sector, investing in advanced clean technologies, and preparing an ecosystem that supports the growth of future industries.
Masdar has become a national platform that translates leadership directives into ambitious plans, strategies, and goals, now recognized as one of the leading companies in the clean energy sector globally, playing a significant role in asserting the UAE’s position as a trusted partner in the global energy landscape and enhancing its readiness to meet future requirements.
The company has invested across various stages of the energy value chain, from the innovation of solutions and technologies to implementation and operation. This approach has reinforced the UAE’s central role in developing actionable solutions that meet market needs and developmental requirements in different countries while supporting energy sector stability.
Moreover, since its establishment, Masdar has embodied the principles of collaboration and partnership, actively expanding its international strategic partnerships and exchanging best practices to foster innovative projects that align with global advances.
After two decades of growth and accomplishments, Masdar has solidified its position as one of the fastest-growing companies in the global renewable energy sector, driven by rapid developments in its operations and a noticeable increase in the production capacity of its projects.
In 2022, Masdar entered a new phase of expansion, becoming owned by three prominent national companies in the energy and investment sectors globally: Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), and Mubadala Investment Company.
This integration has unified efforts, boosted investment and operational capabilities, enabling Masdar to accelerate its global growth and expand its presence in international markets, reaffirming its role as a national leader in the large-scale development and deployment of clean energy solutions.
Currently, the company is investing in sustainable projects worldwide, with a production capacity exceeding 65 gigawatts and aiming to reach 100 gigawatts by 2030.
These efforts embody Masdar’s strategy of measured expansion, building strategic partnerships, and fostering innovation, enhancing its position as a pioneering model and contributing to establishing new standards for renewable energy projects globally.
Clean Energy
Mohammed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, stated that for two decades, Masdar has embodied the ambitious vision of the UAE in transforming the global energy sector. It has successfully established itself as a leading national platform that drives the development and dissemination of clean energy solutions worldwide. Its achievements are based on a strategic approach grounded in proactive measures, innovation, building high-quality strategic partnerships, and a sound financial foundation with disciplined policies and well-considered investments in large-scale projects that contribute to creating a positive global energy impact.
He added that as Masdar enters a new decade of growth, it will continue to build upon its pioneering achievements by focusing on a clear vision to accelerate efforts in global markets and work toward its 100-gigawatt goal by 2030, reaffirming its commitment to providing clean, reliable, and cost-effective energy while supporting sustainable economic and social growth and enhancing global energy security.
Since its inception, Masdar has played a crucial role in developing strategic projects that have been pivotal in the clean energy landscape. The UAE’s efforts in this vital sector began with the launch of Masdar’s first project in 2009, with a production capacity of 10 megawatts in Masdar City, culminating in the recent commissioning of the Al Dhafra Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant in 2023, which has a capacity of 2 gigawatts—200 times larger—making it one of the largest plants worldwide.
Shams Station
In 2013, the company inaugurated the “Shams” solar plant, which at the time was the first concentrated solar power facility at a utility scale in the Middle East, with a capacity of 100 megawatts and continues to be one of the largest of its kind in the region. Additionally, it has developed phases three and six of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, with a total capacity of 2,600 megawatts, making it the largest solar park in a single location globally. This park is set to reach a production capacity of 5,000 megawatts by 2030, operating under an independent power producer model.
Masdar has also launched other significant projects in the UAE, including the Emirates Wind Energy Program, which is the first of its kind in the UAE with a production capacity of 103.5 megawatts. This program utilizes advanced, innovative technologies suited for low wind speeds, developed in accordance with the latest innovations in materials science and aerodynamics.
Masdar pioneered the world’s first and largest project to generate clean energy around the clock, with a capacity of 5.2 gigawatts, equipped with a battery energy storage system of 19 gigawatt-hours.
This achievement signifies a transformative leap in the clean energy sector, as the integration of solar energy technologies with energy storage systems enables continuous renewable electricity supply to the grid, while simultaneously elevating the UAE’s position as a global leader in adopting and developing future energy solutions.
As global electricity demand accelerates due to the rapid growth of data centers and artificial intelligence technologies, Masdar’s projects emerge as a key contributor to supporting the sustainable energy infrastructure by providing low-emission and reliable electricity that facilitates global digital transformation.
