The Department of Government Support – Abu Dhabi (DGE), on behalf of the Government of Abu Dhabi, today announced a significant agreement with Microsoft and Core42, a G42 company specializing in sovereign cloud, AI infrastructure and digital services, to implement a sovereign cloud system that will unlock efficiency and innovation in government service delivery, reported by Abu Dhabi Media Office.
The multi-year agreement between the Government of Abu Dhabi, Microsoft and Core42 was signed in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Council for Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technologies, and Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Council and Member of the Council for Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technologies.
The partnership was signed by Ahmed Tamim Hisham Al Quttab, Head of Government Support in Abu Dhabi, Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO of Microsoft, and Peng Xiao, Group CEO of G42. The agreement will create a unified, high-performance sovereign cloud computing environment capable of handling over 11 million daily digital interactions between Abu Dhabi government agencies, citizens, residents and businesses.
Abu Dhabi Government: Integrating AI
Ahmed Al Quttab said: “Technology has the potential to transform the way government interacts with people, making services more efficient, intuitive and effective. This partnership is a major milestone in our digital transformation. By combining Microsoft’s cloud technologies, G42’s AI expertise and the government’s strategic vision, we are helping to create a powerful platform that will redefine government services.”
The Abu Dhabi government’s ambition is to create the world’s first government powered entirely by AI by 2027, underpinned by a commitment to several goals: improving the efficiency and accessibility of government services for citizens and residents, creating greater transparency and security for businesses and investors, and fostering a more sustainable and innovative environment for the public sector workforce. Satya Nadella said: “AI will transform the way governments work and serve their citizens everywhere, and Abu Dhabi is leading the way. Through our partnership with the Department of Government Support – Abu Dhabi and G42, we are setting the standard for AI adoption in the public sector, helping Abu Dhabi become the world’s first AI-powered government.” Abu Dhabi aims to automate 100 percent of its government processes, supported by a 13 billion UAE dirhams ($3.54 billion) investment in digital infrastructure as part of the Abu Dhabi Government’s Digital Strategy 2025-2027.
Collaboration between the Abu Dhabi Government, Microsoft and G42
The strategy will see, among other things, more than 200 AI-powered solutions deployed to improve government service delivery, increase operational efficiency and promote environmental sustainability. This is reflected in innovations such as TAMM 3.0, Abu Dhabi’s universal government services app, which has reduced offline customer visits by 90% and made over 73% of transactions instant.
Peng Xiao added: “This agreement is a key step in G42’s commitment to supporting Abu Dhabi’s vision of becoming the world’s first government powered by AI. Core42’s sovereign public cloud, powered by Azure and enhanced by our Insight sovereign control platform, enables government agencies to maintain data sovereignty while leveraging hyperscale innovation.” This initiative goes beyond a technological leap; it is a commitment to build a resilient, future-proof digital infrastructure for AI modernization in Abu Dhabi’s government agencies and sets a global standard for innovation.”
This collaboration between the Abu Dhabi Government, Microsoft and G42 unlocks the potential of strategic digital transformation to help governments work more efficiently and effectively. Through the implementation of artificial intelligence and sovereign cloud technologies, it strengthens the emirate’s commitment to creating a responsible future based on artificial intelligence that fosters innovation and provides people-centric services in accordance with the highest global standards.
