Dubai Cyber Security Center Issues Warning About Fraud Attempts Using Fake QR Codes

The Dubai Electronic Security Center has issued a warning regarding the rise in fraudulent attempts involving counterfeit QR codes, particularly those received via email. Scammers are leveraging the rapid exchange of information to disseminate codes that falsely claim to offer urgent updates or services.

According to the center, these codes can lead to the installation of malicious software on devices or redirect users to phony websites created to steal personal and financial information.

The center urges everyone to exercise caution by verifying the source of emails before scanning any QR code, refraining from engaging with suspicious messages, and avoiding the submission of information through untrustworthy links.

It also emphasizes the importance of using the “Rizam” application developed by the Dubai Electronic Security Center, which provides instant alerts about questionable websites and assists in checking links prior to access, thereby promoting safer browsing and reducing risks.
