The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) anticipates that international tourist expenditure in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will soar to an all-time high of AED 228.5 billion by 2025, representing a 37% increase from its peak in 2019.
According to the WTTC’s yearly Economic Impact Research (EIR), the Travel & Tourism sector in the UAE is poised for a record year in 2025. This sector is projected to contribute AED 267.5 billion to the national economy, accounting for nearly 13% of the GDP.
Job Growth and Domestic Expenditure
By the close of 2025, the Travel & Tourism industry within the UAE is expected to facilitate over 925,000 job opportunities. Furthermore, domestic tourist spending is forecasted to reach AED 60 billion, marking a 47% rise from 2019 levels. These statistics underscore the strength of the local tourism market.

The projected achievements highlight the UAE’s successful strategies in promoting innovation, sustainability, and excellent connectivity among its cities and tourist attractions. Significant efforts include the advancement of smart cities, top-tier infrastructure, and a commitment to improving visitor experiences.

Julia Simpson, President & CEO of WTTC, commended the UAE for its authoritative role in the global Travel & Tourism landscape. She emphasized that the nation exemplifies how strategic foresight can drive economic advancement. Simpson praised initiatives like the Tourism Strategy 2031 and the National Tourism Charter, asserting that these efforts are setting the groundwork for a sustainable and innovative future in the sector.
A Look Back at 2024
In 2024, the Travel & Tourism sector contributed AED 257.3 billion to the UAE’s economy and played a vital role in providing 898,600 jobs, which nearly represents 12.5% of the national workforce. International visitors spent AED 217.3 billion, with domestic tourists contributing AED 57.6 billion to the economy.
Long-Term Forecast
The WTTC projects that by 2035, the sector’s economic contribution will approximate AED 287.8 billion, which will constitute around 10.4% of the national GDP. Additionally, job opportunities in the industry are expected to surpass 1 million, emphasizing tourism’s essential role in diversifying the economy and fostering national development.
Growth of Tourism in the Middle East
The Middle Eastern tourism sector is also set for considerable expansion. In 2024, the region’s contribution to the GDP reached US$341.9 billion, supporting 7.3 million jobs. The WTTC forecasts continued growth into 2025, predicting a GDP contribution of US$367.3 billion and an increase in jobs to 7.7 million.
