Workshop to Strengthen Collaboration in Organizing Marine Recreation Activities

The Dubai Maritime Authority recently participated in a specialized workshop titled “Marine Recreation Association Workshop,” which saw the attendance of notable representatives from various maritime organizations in Dubai. This initiative aims to enhance the role of marine recreation as a vital contributor to the growth of the tourism and maritime sectors in Dubai.

The authority’s involvement in this workshop aligns with its commitment to fostering effective partnerships between government and private sectors, with the goal of advancing the maritime and entertainment industry.

Mohammad Walid Nabhan, Director of Maritime Excellence and Compliance at the Dubai Maritime Authority, highlighted the ongoing efforts made by the entity to improve maritime infrastructure and services, ensuring a safe and appealing marine environment that supports maritime tourism while catering to the expectations of residents and visitors to the emirate.

During the workshop, representatives of the Dubai Maritime Authority showcased key achievements in the maritime sector over recent times, along with providing detailed information about Dubai’s territorial waters, docking areas, and marine entertainment locations. The authority’s participation received positive feedback from attendees, reflecting the high regard that the emirate holds both regionally and internationally, thereby enhancing its profile in specialized maritime forums.

He further noted that the technological and developmental initiatives adopted by the authority have made significant strides, positively impacting the sector’s efficiency and improving user experiences. The Dubai Maritime Authority has automated and refined several electronic systems and platforms.

This includes the launch of the electronic payment system “Fees,” integration of payment services via AMEX cards and Apple Pay, and activation of self-inquiry services through WhatsApp and smart kiosk devices, as well as automating the crew assessment booking process, which has contributed to reducing manual interventions and increasing operational efficiency.

Hamed Hassan, Director of Marine Registration at the authority, remarked that best practices and ongoing efforts by legislative authorities, particularly the Dubai Maritime Authority, were presented. The authority also reviewed its excellent performance over the past year.

This performance has further solidified Dubai’s leading position both regionally and globally in the maritime services sector. The authority emphasized the importance of regulating marine recreational activities and urged adherence to obtaining prior permits from property owners or managers of specific areas, while also avoiding any obstruction of waterways or disruption to other users. The authority enforces restrictions on the entry of certain maritime vessels into the Dubai Water Canal to ensure user safety and maintain orderly movement.
