UAE Ranks Second Globally in AI Power
The United Arab Emirates has achieved the second position worldwide and the top spot regionally among major powers in the field of artificial intelligence, according to a recent report released by the American company TRG, which specializes in data centers.
The United States leads this ranking, followed by the UAE in second place and Saudi Arabia in third.
This classification highlights the UAE’s superiority over countries such as South Korea, France, India, China, the United Kingdom, Finland, and Germany.
The report, published by Texas-based TRG Data Centers, evaluates national supercomputing capabilities for artificial intelligence, corporate activity in the sector, and governmental preparedness based on several key criteria.
According to the report, the UAE possesses over 188,000 AI chips, with a total power capacity of 6,400 megawatts.
TRG’s analysis also utilized specialized data on supercomputers from the Epoch Institute for Artificial Intelligence, along with statistics related to total power capacity.
A representative from the company stated: “The race for AI supremacy is fought on multiple fronts; raw computing power is merely a piece of a much larger puzzle.” Furthermore, they noted that some nations are investing resources in building supercomputers and data centers while others are focusing on establishing regulatory frameworks that “attract international research and development in the field of artificial intelligence.”
The UAE’s strong performance in this ranking is indicative of the Gulf region’s ambitions in artificial intelligence starting to bear fruit.
This analysis follows a report from the online learning platform Coursera indicating that the UAE leads the Arab world in the maturity level of artificial intelligence technologies. The country has long sought to establish itself as a key player in this sector, resulting in the establishment of startups, partnerships, and investments from industry giants like Microsoft, Nvidia, and OpenAI.
In 2019, the UAE announced the creation of a dedicated university for artificial intelligence, the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence. Two years prior, it became one of the first nations globally to appoint a minister for artificial intelligence.
In July of this year, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister, launched a new rating system featuring icons that signify the endorsement of artificial intelligence in research and publications.
