The Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, which is part of the Abu Dhabi Ports Group, has entered into a research, development, and operational agreement with Minx, a company specializing in mining and mineral processing technologies based in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This agreement involves the design, development, and operation of an advanced machine enhanced with artificial intelligence for ore sorting, aimed at improving the quality of low-grade mineral materials and transforming them into products ready for export.
Under this agreement, the Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy will develop and operate a primary mineral processing unit that incorporates machine learning models exclusively owned by the Academy, along with supporting specialized equipment.
This unit will be integrated into the mineral processing workflow at Minx’s operational sites, with the goal of improving recovery rates, enhancing operational efficiency, and extracting value from mineral materials that have previously been economically unviable.
Advanced Engineering
Dr. Yasser Al-Wahidy, head of the Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy, stated: “Utilizing applied research and artificial intelligence in real-world operational environments allows innovation to generate a tangible industrial impact. This collaboration exemplifies the use of advanced engineering and artificial intelligence to enhance efficiency, performance, and sustainability in mineral processing operations, reflecting the Abu Dhabi Ports Group’s commitment to technological leadership and value maximization.”
Mansour Hamayoun, co-founder and chairman of Minx, commented: “The ability to economically upgrade low-grade materials to meet export standards is one of the major challenges facing supply chains for tin, tungsten, and tantalum throughout the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
This partnership combines applied artificial intelligence, long-term investment commitment, and operational efficiency to tackle this challenge on a large scale.” The agreement aligns with the broader strategic objectives of the Abu Dhabi Ports Group in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and follows a preliminary agreement to develop and operate a multipurpose terminal at the Matadi port in the country.
