Abu Dhabi to host second Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship in January

The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation will host its second successful Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship from January 17-19 at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi. Registration is now open for the UAEJJF-sanctioned event, which features competitions in various categories including children, youth, adults and masters, reported Arab News.

Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri

The first edition of the championship covered five rounds — two for the non-Gi category and three for the Gi category. It was held in different emirates and attracted more than 10,000 men and women from leading clubs and academies across the country. “We are proud of the success of the inaugural Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship, a name that is dear to all of us,” said Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAEJJF.

“This achievement was made possible by the unwavering support of our wise leadership of the sport and the athletes, especially Jiu-Jitsu.” Al Dhaheri said the championship reflects the federation’s strategy to enhance the presence of Jiu-Jitsu at the local and international levels, while continuing to nurture and develop national talent. He added: “The male and female athletes displayed incredible skill and competitive spirit throughout the five rounds, demonstrating their commitment to improvement and success. “The championship successfully provided a platform to identify and develop talent, while promoting Jiu-Jitsu as a sport that instills discipline, patience, resilience, courage and teamwork.”

Al-Daheri said the event plays a “central role in encouraging the community to participate in sports, helping to create a generation that is physically and mentally strong. “The large turnout of families supporting their children highlights the importance of the championship. It has evolved into a comprehensive event that combines a professional sporting environment with cultural events, sports exhibitions and entertainment for all.”
