Dubai Chamber Promotes Sustainable Practices in Businesses

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce, one of the three chambers operating under the Dubai Chambers umbrella, has been awarded the ‘Say and Do’ Sustainability Mark. This recognition highlights the chamber’s leadership role in promoting sustainability values and positive impact, aligning with the UAE’s vision for a more sustainable future.

The chamber received the ‘Say and Do’ Sustainability Mark in relation to its initiative focused on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards.

This initiative was launched by the chamber’s Business Ethics Center last year, aimed at assisting businesses in assessing their readiness and maturity in adopting these standards, while also acknowledging their efforts to drive sustainable growth.

Environmental Sustainability

The Dubai Chamber’s ESG standards aim to encourage the business community to adopt and enhance practices that yield positive impacts on society and the environment, while reinforcing sound governance through recognition of the efforts made by companies to support sustainability.

All companies that have been established for at least two years, regardless of their size, can apply for this mark. It provides numerous benefits to holders, including assurance of alignment with best practices, enhancement of their brand reputation, and creation of added value to attract potential investors.

Through this mark, organizations can enhance their self-adoption of ESG standards in comparison to those implemented by their peers in the regional and global business community.

Participating companies receive a report outlining areas for improvement, along with a maturity level based on the overall assessment of their standard adoption.

A comprehensive evaluation was conducted by globally accredited experts to analyze regulatory frameworks and reporting mechanisms in both regional and global contexts, identifying key factors for measuring the maturity of ESG adoption by businesses and organizations.

The business community was engaged in developing the mark, ensuring alignment with global best practices and compliance with local and international requirements regarding readiness and related reporting standards.

ESG standards are gaining increasing importance as a strategic priority for organizations of all sizes and sectors, promoting the integration of sustainability goals into core business practices and operational processes. This includes adopting transparency in reporting, minimizing environmental impact, developing social responsibility initiatives, and ensuring that governance practices comply with ethical principles.

The Business Ethics Center at the Dubai Chamber plays a pivotal role in fostering responsible and sustainable practices in Dubai, actively supporting and motivating companies to embrace social responsibility, thereby enhancing their performance and competitive capabilities while boosting their contributions to the community and environment.

The center also offers a variety of platforms, tools, and knowledge resources to assist companies in integrating governance, sustainability, and social responsibility into their corporate practices.
