Dubai Customs Seizes 10.8 Million Counterfeit Goods in 2024

Dubai Customs recorded 54 seizures of 10.8 million counterfeit goods in 2024 as part of its efforts to protect intellectual property rights. These efforts also strengthen Dubai’s investment climate by enabling manufacturers to avoid losses due to counterfeit brands, reported by Emirates 24|7.

To strengthen its efforts, Dubai Customs is conducting training for its staff and inspectors, equipping them with the skills to detect counterfeits and piracy with high efficiency. These efforts are supported by cutting-edge innovation and technology in inspection, as well as the deployment of intelligent IT applications to optimize operational efficiency.

Dr. Abdullah Bousenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, stressed that the emirate’s commercial sector is thriving in line with the economic goals outlined in the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

Dubai’s extensive network spanning several countries has contributed to a notable increase in foreign trade, with sea freight increasing by 23% in 2024 compared to 2023, land freight by 21% and air freight by 11.3%. Dubai Customs plays a key role in supporting the emirate’s economic vision, strengthening international trade ties and improving efficiency through digital customs services.

Securing Dubai’s Borders

Dubai Customs’ data grew by 49.2% in 2024 compared to the previous year. Its intelligent services have been recognized globally as a benchmark in modern customs practice. The department has also made significant strides in protecting intellectual property, seizing over 10.8 million items.

Dubai Customs continues to secure Dubai’s borders, with 3,273 seizures. Its efforts are vital to protecting both the economy and society. The department has also made impressive progress on key projects, completing 55 out of 84 initiatives in 2024, leading to a 5% increase in cargo handled, an 8% increase in baggage handled and a 9% increase in passenger handled.
