Dubai Electricity and Shell Explore Collaboration in Clean Energy

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) engaged in discussions with Shell regarding collaboration in the field of clean energy during a meeting led by Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the authority’s managing director and CEO, with a delegation from Shell, headed by Bakr Badr, the Chairman for Shell in Iraq and the UAE.

According to a press release issued today, the delegation included Geraldine Wesseling, a senior political analyst from the Scenario and Strategic Insights Unit, and Hessa Abdullah, Shell’s media relations head for the Middle East.

Throughout the meeting, Shell shared insights from its latest report titled “Energy Security Scenarios for 2025: Energy and Artificial Intelligence,” which explores how AI could reshape global energy systems through three distinct pathways: archipelagos, horizon, and surge.

These scenarios serve as strategic tools for decision-makers, assisting them in anticipating future challenges, assessing risks, and identifying opportunities within the rapidly changing energy landscape. Discussions also highlighted potential collaboration in promoting a circular and green economy. Al Tayer presented the leading projects DEWA is implementing in the domain of clean energy, most notably the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, recognized as the largest single-site solar energy facility worldwide under an independent power producer model.

Al Tayer also spoke about the “Sail” building, DEWA’s new headquarters, which is set to be the largest and tallest energy-positive government building globally. He noted the authority’s accomplishments in adopting AI technologies, having launched a strategic roadmap to become the world’s first digitally advanced utility to integrate AI into all of its operational processes. Bakr Badr reiterated Shell’s commitment to supporting the transition to clean energy in the UAE.
