Emirates’ “إميرج” Offers Comprehensive Solutions for a Sustainable Future in Saudi Arabia

Emirates-based company Emerj, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) and EDF Energy Solutions, has announced a long-term agreement with Musk City to generate solar energy and provide sustainable electricity over the next two decades. This agreement marks a significant milestone in the city’s journey toward becoming a model for environmental innovation and urban sustainability.

The signing ceremony took place in Riyadh and was attended by key officials, including David Henry, CEO of Musk City; Omar Al-Dwaish, board member of Emerj; Michal Abi Saad, General Manager of Emerj; Samuel Minard, economic advisor at the French embassy in Riyadh; and Anwar Makas, nuclear and renewable energy consultant at the French embassy in Riyadh.

As part of this agreement, a photovoltaic solar power station with a peak capacity of 621 kilowatts will be developed on the rooftops of car park canopies and other buildings in Musk City, located in the northwest of Riyadh.

Emerj will take full responsibility for the development and execution of the project, including engineering, design, financing, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance. This collaborative framework will serve as a model for developing additional sustainable energy solutions within Musk City, aligned with its ambitious urban development.

David Henry, CEO of Musk City, stated, “From the outset, Musk City was designed to be a sustainable and innovative urban community looking toward the future, aimed at empowering future generations, and serving as a benchmark for innovation and environmental responsibility. Integrating clean energy sources into Musk City’s infrastructure is a true embodiment of this ambitious vision. This project represents a pivotal step toward achieving our strategic sustainability goals, further enhancing our commitment to building a city that grows and thrives in perfect harmony with its environment.”

Omar Al-Dwaish, board member of Emerj and CEO of EDF in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, noted, “This partnership exemplifies the growing momentum in the Kingdom towards adopting clean energy solutions. By supporting the pioneering sustainability goals of Musk City, Emerj is proud to contribute to shaping a new urban landscape where innovation and environmental conservation go hand in hand. Emerj’s comprehensive model focuses on delivering ready-made solutions that simplify complex processes and accelerate the transition to clean energy for clients across the region.”

Ali Al-Shammari, board member of Emerj and director of strategic and private projects at Masdar, expressed, “Emerj is committed to developing projects customized to meet the aspirations and specific needs of our partners. This agreement with Musk City exemplifies our commitment to making a transformative impact in the energy sector by providing integrated and tailored solutions. By leveraging the global expertise of both Masdar and EDF, we ensure the highest standards of quality and innovation throughout all phases of the project, from design and financing to long-term operation.”

Through this agreement, Musk City will benefit from solar energy, one of the most abundant natural resources available in the Kingdom, providing power while reducing its carbon footprint and further establishing itself as a leading model of sustainable cities in the region.
