Laurent Saint-Martin, France’s Minister of Foreign Trade and French Citizens Abroad, affirmed that the United Arab Emirates holds a significant position in the priority list of France’s economic and trade policies in the Gulf region. He emphasized the depth and uniqueness of the bilateral relationship, particularly in economic and diplomatic spheres.
In an interview with the Emirates News Agency on the sidelines of the “Gulf Vision” forum organized by the French government at the Ministry of Economy and Finance in Paris, the French minister praised the exceptional momentum of the partnership between Paris and Abu Dhabi. He called for enhancing this collaboration to achieve greater efficiency, especially in the fields of industry, renewable energy, digital economy, and innovation.
Saint-Martin stated, “The UAE undoubtedly stands out as a priority for France among Gulf nations, not only due to its economic and regional weight but also because it exemplifies a modern and dynamic development model that aligns with our vision for the future of international relations based on innovation, sustainability, and openness.”
He explained that France aims to strengthen partnerships with countries that share its strategic visions and political and cultural values, considering the UAE an ideal model for such future collaborations.
Regarding the economic ties between the two nations, Saint-Martin mentioned that France has maintained the oldest record of trade and investment relations in the Gulf, noting that this connection was not simply a result of coincidence or temporary alliances but was built on solid foundations of trust, understanding, and mutual respect.
He remarked, “We have collaborated with the UAE for many years and take pride in what our companies have accomplished in the Emirati market. Today, we have a genuine opportunity to expand this cooperation in line with global economic transformations, which demand quality partnerships based on joint innovation.”
The French minister urged the business communities of both countries to capitalize on the current momentum and enhance collaboration between French and Emirati companies, particularly in advanced technology, artificial intelligence, and green transformation.
He concluded, “Today, we need to move from traditional cooperation to building genuine productive partnerships; our companies must work together more integratively and effectively.”
