The Dubai Science Park has welcomed a new laboratory complex from IMCD, reinforcing the growing status of the United Arab Emirates as a leading destination for research and development.
This facility, spanning 4,160 square feet within the Dubai Science Park—one of ten specialized clusters under the Tecom Group—features dedicated technical centers for food and beverages as well as for coatings and construction materials. It is equipped with necessary tools to carry out a wide range of development, testing, and analytical operations to meet regional market demands. The inauguration event was attended by a distinguished group of officials, including Valerie Deel Brown, the global CEO of IMCD; Lars Walstein, the managing director of IMCD in Germany; Manuel Bowman, the general manager of IMCD Middle East; Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, the Executive Vice President of Tecom Group – Dubai Science Park, Dubai Knowledge Park, and Dubai International Academic City; and Varghese Anthony, the general manager of Al-Futtaim Logistics.
IMCD Middle East aims to expand its growth within the food and beverage sector across the Gulf countries, Jordan, Lebanon, and Egypt, as well as in the coatings and construction materials sector through its newly opened facilities.
Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi stated that innovative scientific discoveries and continuous advancements in the sciences are pivotal for sustainable development in line with the UAE’s ambitious vision. He emphasized, “The development and testing of materials is a crucial field of knowledge with a direct impact on enhancing value chains in Dubai and the UAE across vital and diverse economic sectors. The launch of IMCD’s laboratories aligns with our efforts to enable our leading cluster to support national priorities, such as food security and sustainable construction. We reiterate our commitment to advancing science-based progress and contributing to a promising future, consistent with the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai Research and Development Program, as well as the Vision 2031 for the UAE.”
Similarly, Manuel Bowman pointed out that the establishment of IMCD’s new laboratories in the Dubai Science Park is a response to rising regional demands for specialized skills in material testing and formulation. He noted, “This complex enables us to collaborate closely with manufacturers in the region, allowing us to address local nuances in product development methods and implement sustainable practices. IMCD Middle East’s expansion plans are set to bolster regional food security and elevate environmentally considerate construction technologies, leveraging Dubai’s global position as a leading innovation hub.”
The food laboratories of IMCD Middle East are fully equipped to aid in the development of new food products, including texture analysis, sensory evaluations, and product prototyping. This will significantly benefit companies in sectors such as baking, dairy, beverages, culinary arts, savory foods, snacks, and confectionery, leveraging IMCD Middle East’s rich ingredient portfolio and extensive global expertise. The coatings and construction materials laboratories will contribute to the development of sustainable building products in areas such as waterproofing and coatings manufacturing.
Dubai Science Park is one of the ten specialized business hubs under the Tecom Group, which also includes Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, Dubai Studio City, Dubai Production City, Dubai Knowledge Park, Dubai International Academic City, Dubai Design District, and Dubai Industrial City.
