Parking in Sharjah: How to Apply for a Subscription

Sharjah introduces new parking system in bid to optimise urban space. In the United Arab Emirates, where urban growth puts additional pressure on transport infrastructure, parking is becoming a key factor in economic efficiency. Sharjah offers local residents and businesses a solution in the form of prepaid parking passes, which significantly simplifies the daily commute of motorists. The system allows users to choose different plans depending on their needs: individual passes for all areas of the city or for two specific zones, while special packages covering the entire territory of Sharjah are available for companies.

Traditional parking stickers are gradually being replaced by smart cards tied to specific vehicles. These cards must be clearly visible on the windscreen of the vehicle, which simplifies control and ensures more efficient use of public parking spaces. To obtain such a card, simply visit the municipal office next to the Ramez shopping center near the cricket stadium, or use the convenient online service on the municipality’s website.

To apply for a subscription online, you need to follow these simple steps:

  • Go to the official portal of the Sharjah Municipality (https://portal.shjmun.gov.ae/en/Pages/Home.aspx).
  • Go to the “Intelligent Services” tab.
  • Select the “Public Parking Department Services” section.
  • Click on the “Parking Subscription” item and select “Enter a Service”.
  • Log in to the system and complete the registration process.

Special conditions and discounts: supporting socially important categories

Sharjah is actively implementing social support for certain categories of citizens by offering them reduced parking rates. An exceptional subscription with a 20 percent discount is available for pensioners, senior citizens, students, civil servants living in paid zones, holders of the Defender of the Fatherland or Waffer cards, as well as recipients of social benefits.

The rates for this special category are as follows:

  • 3 months – 600 dirhams.
  • 6 months – 1050 dirhams.
  • 12 months – 1850 dirhams.

The following documents are required to apply for a subscription:

  • Emirates ID.
  • Vehicle registration certificate.
  • Trade license (for commercial subscriptions).
  • Document confirming the right to a discount.

Applications can be submitted through the official website of the municipality, authorized service centers or directly at the Sharjah Municipality. It is important to note that special subscriptions are issued exclusively through authorized service centers.

The city administration pays special attention to purposeful people who are offered a free parking subscription. To obtain a free permit for persons with disabilities, the following documents must be presented:

  • A valid UAE ID card.
  • A vehicle registration certificate.
  • A disability card.

Applications are made virtually through the Sharjah Municipality website, making the process as comfortable and inclusive as possible. Thus, Sharjah not only improves its parking infrastructure, but also demonstrates social responsibility, emphasizing its desire to create comfortable conditions for all segments of the population.
