The Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, represented by the Dubai Ports Authority, has introduced a comprehensive awareness campaign aimed at promoting safety and compliance with regulations for fueling operations of vessels operating in Dubai’s ports.
Captain Ibrahim Al Blooshi, the Executive Director of the Dubai Ports Authority, highlighted the authority’s commitment to protecting the marine environment in the emirate’s ports while ensuring the highest standards of operational safety in the maritime sector. This initiative includes launching an awareness campaign directed at vessels and fuel supply companies to familiarize them with the regulations governing fueling operations, with the objective of fostering a culture of safety and strict adherence to guidelines that contribute to the sustainability of the maritime sector and mitigate potential environmental hazards.
He explained that the campaign is crucial, as fueling is an essential process for vessel operations. However, improper handling of fueling can lead to severe environmental pollution incidents, resulting in substantial financial costs, including legal fines and lawsuits, as well as cleanup expenses that can reach millions of dirhams, adversely affecting the marine environment and associated commercial activities.
Al Blooshi urged partners and stakeholders in the maritime sector to collaborate and adopt the best global practices to ensure the safety of individuals and facilities while fully complying with fueling regulations.
