President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and President of the United States of America Donald Trump held a telephone conversation to discuss ways to further strengthen the strategic ties between the two countries in various fields in support of shared interests. The call was part of the long-standing partnership between the UAE and the United States, WAM has reported.
The conversation also covered the outcomes of the recent official visit to the United States by His Highness Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi and National Security Advisor. The visit resulted in the announcement of key agreements and partnerships between the two countries, including in the fields of artificial intelligence, advanced technologies, infrastructure and energy, with both sides noting the positive impact that these developments will have on the future of bilateral relations.
Gaza Ceasefire
The Presidents also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, focusing on the situation in the Middle East and ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and support regional stability. In this context, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, stressed the importance of ensuring the delivery of vital humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza in light of the dire humanitarian situation and reaffirmed the UAE’s support for the two-state solution as the basis for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the region that guarantees security and stability for all its countries and peoples.
In early February, Trump presented his plan for Gaza, which envisaged the displacement of Palestinians and the creation of a Middle Eastern “riviera.” This proposal drew condemnation from many world leaders. Arab countries, including the UAE, have accepted Egypt’s alternative Gaza reconstruction plan, which will cost $53 billion and avoid the displacement of Palestinians.
UAE’s cooperation with the US
Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the UAE president, said on February 26 that the Gaza reconstruction plan cannot happen without a clear path to a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians. The UAE is one of the few Arab states that normalized relations with Israel in 2020 under US-brokered agreements under the Trump administration.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, also reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to continue strengthening cooperation with the United States to achieve their shared development goals and to support peace and prosperity in the region and around the world. This commitment reflects the UAE’s steadfast approach to promoting cooperation and development at both the regional and global levels. Both sides stressed their determination to further strengthen the strategic cooperation between the two countries in a manner that serves common interests.
