UAE Introduces Groundbreaking Whitepaper on the Future of 6G – TechAfrica News

The newly released whitepaper by e& UAE outlines a comprehensive strategy for 6G, heralding a network ecosystem designed to enhance connectivity for those without access, support the immersive internet, and spearhead substantial digital advancement.

e& UAE, the primary telecommunications subsidiary of e&, has unveiled a whitepaper titled “Shaping the Future: e& UAE’s 6G Vision,” which provides an innovative framework for the upcoming generation of connectivity. Building on its pioneering position in 5G technology—demonstrating an impressive speed of 62 Gbps with 5G-Advanced—the whitepaper presents e& UAE’s clear strategy for 6G, which is expected to expand connectivity reach, enable immersive experiences, and drive significant digital transformation.

6G goes beyond mere connectivity enhancements; it signifies a transformative approach to how we interact, compute, and collaborate. With 6G, we are not just gearing up for greater speed, but we are creating the essential framework for a cognitive, secure, and autonomous digital society. Our objective is to support an intelligent infrastructure that facilitates everything from extended reality and autonomous mobility to AI-driven networks and seamless connectivity.

The whitepaper positions 6G as an intelligent, responsive, and green network fabric that will empower digital societies, industries, and government operations. Projected peak data rates are expected to reach the terabit-per-second level with latencies below one millisecond, paving the way for advanced immersive experiences, autonomous transportation, Industry 4.0, and a range of inclusive digital services with unprecedented efficiency and accuracy.

Future Directions for e& UAE’s 6G Vision

The document outlines a future in which telecommunications evolve into a smart, flexible infrastructure capable of autonomous decision-making, the protection of national interests, and the facilitation of next-gen services.

With backing from the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) and international collaborations, 6G aims to become a cognitive, secure, and sustainable digital ecosystem merged with AI-oriented intelligence, integrated sensor technology, advanced security measures, sub-THz spectrum usage, and non-terrestrial network infrastructures.

A central aspect of this vision is the AI-native network, which fundamentally integrates intelligence into the core of network design rather than applying it as a secondary addition. e& UAE plans to weave machine learning across all levels—from devices to applications. This approach supports self-optimization, anticipatory maintenance, and fully autonomous service provision, vital for the high demands of smart cities, autonomous transport systems, and immediate industrial frameworks.

The whitepaper also addresses Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) as a fundamental capability within 6G. This innovation will transform communication nodes into distributed sensing units, enabling networks to “sense” their surroundings, detect movements, create accurate terrain maps, track assets, and evaluate structural integrity. This functionality will convert the network into a real-time environmental monitoring system, unlocking new possibilities in public safety, transportation, governance, and urban planning.

In light of the advancement of quantum computing, the document emphasizes the critical necessity for quantum-safe infrastructure. e& UAE’s approach to 6G integrates post-quantum cryptography and secure-by-design practices to protect data and essential services from future quantum-driven threats, ensuring long-term robustness for both public sector systems and private enterprises.

Another groundbreaking aspect is the incorporation of Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTNs), which will be an integral part of the 6G structure. This will provide continuous service coverage in remote areas, enhancing national connectivity and enabling applications such as drone delivery, distant industrial operations, and in-flight communication services.

The whitepaper also presents transformative applications across various sectors, including holographic telepresence, virtual industrial simulations, autonomous transport corridors, and immersive tourism experiences, many of which are currently being developed in the UAE.

As the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and 3GPP work towards establishing the global IMT-2030 framework, e& UAE is actively engaged in defining the standards, use cases, and spectrum regulations that will shape the international landscape of 6G.

6G signifies a transition from basic connectivity to cognitive capabilities where networks gain intelligence, environmental awareness, and autonomous responsiveness. This transformation will significantly influence how nations provide public services, safeguard critical assets, and promote economic expansion. Looking ahead, the network will evolve into a strategic resource, crafted to think, adapt, and enhance every facet of digital existence. e& UAE is committed to playing a central role in 6G standardization and the practical exploration of emerging technologies.
