On Friday, the United Arab Emirates experienced its hottest May temperature since record-keeping began in 2003, reaching a scorching 50.4 degrees Celsius, as reported by the National Center of Meteorology.
“The peak temperature recorded across the country today is 50.4°C in Al Shawamekh (Abu Dhabi) at 14:30 UAE Local time,” the center shared in a statement on social media.
“This marks the highest temperature recorded in May since we initiated our monitoring in 2003,” the NCM informed AFP.
This figure surpasses the previous record of 50.2 degrees Celsius set in May 2009, according to the center.
The UAE stands out as one of the leading oil-exporting nations but has also made substantial investments in renewable energy sources.
