UAE Set to Implement AI Education in Schools Beginning with Kindergarten

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister of the UAE, announced this initiative on the social media platform X, underlining the necessity of preparing younger generations for a future influenced by cutting-edge technologies.

“We aim to provide our children with an in-depth understanding of AI from a technical standpoint, while also nurturing their comprehension of the ethical aspects associated with this groundbreaking technology,” stated Sheikh Mohammed. “It is our duty to prepare our children for an era that is distinct from ours, with challenges unlike our own.”

The AI curriculum will be incorporated into different stages of education, ensuring that students acquire both hands-on skills and insight into the societal effects of AI. This initiative represents a significant step in the UAE’s overarching strategy to integrate AI across vital sectors including the economy, governance, and education.

In terms of investment, the Gulf nation has made considerable strides. In 2017, it became the first nation globally to appoint a Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence. Additionally, it established the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) in Abu Dhabi, which is the world’s first graduate-level research institution exclusively dedicated to artificial intelligence.

This February, the UAE committed between 30 and 50 billion euros towards the development of a large-scale AI data center in France, reaffirming its role as a key player in the international AI landscape.

As AI continues to transform the future of work, communication, and education, the UAE’s proactive approach to incorporating AI into school curricula aims to empower its youth to become pioneers and ethical leaders in the technology-driven society of tomorrow.
