Unexpected Plea from the Region: Egypt and UAE Urge Immediate Halt to Hostilities in Gaza

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed convened on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.

In their post-meeting statement, both leaders highlighted the critical need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and emphasized the importance of a hostage exchange agreement for imprisoned terrorists.

They underscored the necessity of delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip in adequate amounts and without any restrictions, aiming to “rescue” local inhabitants from their severe circumstances.

Furthermore, the two presidents advocated for ongoing diplomatic initiatives to realize a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, stating that this is the sole pathway to achieve lasting peace and comprehensive stability in the Middle East.

Earlier in the week, Mahmoud Abbas, the chairman of the Palestinian Authority, urged that “Hamas must give up control of the Gaza Strip,” insisting that the militant group release the Israeli hostages and agree to a ceasefire immediately to relieve the hardships faced by the residents of Gaza.
