Dubai Police Announces Red Light Penalties

Dubai Police has strongly stressed that running red lights is one of the most dangerous traffic violations, as evidenced by accident statistics. These violations have proven to be very dangerous, often resulting in fatalities or serious injuries, reported by Dubai Police.

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrui, Director of the General Traffic Department of Dubai Police, stressed that the impact of collisions on traffic lights is magnified by the angle of the collision, which significantly increases the risk of death or serious injury.

Bad statistics

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrui noted that many drivers exceed the speed limit when approaching traffic lights, trying to overcome the transition from yellow to red. “This behavior leads to serious accidents, especially when drivers fail to reach the signal in time and collide with oncoming traffic,” he explained.

Major General Al Mazrui said that according to statistics from the General Department of Road Traffic, 51 road accidents were registered in the past seven months, in which two people died and 73 people were injured to varying degrees, including 6 serious, 22 moderate and 45 light. He added that “855 vehicles were confiscated for violating traffic light regulations. At the same time, 13,876 violations were issued for running red lights during the same period this year.”
