Dubai International Airport has retained its leading global position in scheduled seat capacity for international flights during August, according to the monthly report from OAG, a leading provider of airport and airline data.
The report revealed that the total number of scheduled seats on international flights departing from Dubai increased to 5.34 million seats (10.68 million in both directions), up from 5.17 million seats in August 2022, representing an increase of over 170,000 additional seats.
This growth aligns with the airport’s continued strong performance, attracting new airlines and seeing expansion from Emirates and flydubai.
According to the monthly report, London Heathrow Airport ranked second with over 4.29 million seats, followed by Seoul Incheon in third with 3.82 million seats. Amsterdam Schiphol secured the fourth position with approximately 3.79 million seats, while Istanbul Airport came in fifth with around 3.75 million seats. Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris ranked sixth with 3.69 million seats.
Singapore Changi Airport took the seventh spot with 3.51 million seats, followed by Frankfurt Airport with 3.49 million seats, Hong Kong International Airport with roughly 3.39 million seats, and Hamad International Airport in Doha ranked tenth with about 2.8 million seats.
In terms of total seating capacity for both international and domestic flights, the report placed Dubai International Airport second globally, only behind Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which recorded 5.43 million scheduled seats in August. Tokyo’s airport followed in third place with around 4.82 million seats for both flight types.
Dubai International Airport holds a unique global position as a major aviation hub, currently connecting to over 269 destinations in more than 107 countries, serviced by a network of over 92 international carriers. This status reinforces Dubai’s role as a global center for aviation, trade, tourism, and investment.
As the second half of the year progresses, Dubai is preparing for a significant increase in travel volume, coinciding with the peak back-to-school period and an exciting winter season packed with international events.
