Dubai Customs has released Customs Announcement No. (05/2026), which includes a decision to extend the transit period for goods. This initiative aims to bolster supply chain continuity and ensure smooth trade flow amidst the current operational challenges facing the global logistics sector.
This decision aligns with a broader government strategy, as the Executive Council of Dubai has approved an economic stimulus package worth one billion dirhams to enhance economic flexibility and improve readiness for rapid changes. Effective from April 1, 2026, it will impact various vital sectors and supporting enablers, including extending the customs data submission periods from 30 to 90 days for a six-month renewable term, while ensuring compliance with existing tax regulations to improve the efficiency of supply chains and supply lines for essential goods.
The customs announcement stipulates that “this facilitation is temporary and will remain in effect during the current exceptional period until further notice,” reflecting a responsive approach to current changes.
This announcement is based on Customs Policy No. (35/2011) regarding transit goods. It states that “the transit of goods must be completed and delivered to another customs area (exit point) within a maximum of 90 days from the date of completion of the customs declaration,” allowing logistics sector companies more time to manage operational challenges. Dubai Customs specified that this decision applies exclusively to transit customs declarations.
In line with the flexibility of the new policy, the announcement indicates that “clients may apply for an extension of the specified period, subject to Dubai Customs’ approval,” which reflects a balanced approach between regulatory requirements and business needs, allowing for exceptional cases to be addressed through organized mechanisms.
The announcement also emphasized that all other existing customs and tax regulations remain in effect, clarifying that any conflicting provisions will be temporarily suspended to facilitate the primary goal of easing goods movement and decreasing operational complexities.
The announcement, effective immediately upon issuance, is part of a set of temporary measures applicable during the current exceptional period until further notice and mandates all relevant departments to take the necessary actions for its implementation within their jurisdiction.
