His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, on Wednesday held a phone call with His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of Somalia, to inquire about his well-being following the terrorist attack that targeted him and resulted in the death and injury of several innocent people, reported by Mohamedbinzayed.ae.
UAE Solidarity with Somalia
During the call, His Highness expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the deceased and the people of Somalia, wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. His Highness reaffirmed the UAE’s solidarity with Somalia and its firm rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at destabilizing the country and threatening the security of its people. President Mohamud, in turn, thanked His Highness for his sincere support and concern for Somalia and its people.
This follows a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued earlier on Wednesday strongly condemning the attack. On Tuesday, the presidential convoy was targeted by the Al-Shabaab group as it passed through the capital, Mogadishu, leaving several people dead and injured. Minister of State Sheikh Shahbut bin Nahyan expressed the UAE’s condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
UAE-Somalia Cooperation
Earlier this month, Sheikh Mohamed met with President Mohamud in Abu Dhabi. The talks focused on ways to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including efforts to promote development and stability in Somalia. The meeting was also attended by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. The talks focused on ways to strengthen cooperation in various fields. The Somali President thanked Sheikh Mohamed for the UAE’s support for his country’s development.
