ADNOC Completes Infrastructure Development for the “Hail” and “Ghasha” Offshore Gas Fields

ADNOC has successfully completed a significant stage in the development of the giant Hail and Ghasha fields by finalizing the transportation and installation of the marine facility foundations from the NMDC Energy manufacturing yard in Abu Dhabi’s Musaffah area.

The structures, referred to as “steel jackets,” serve as bases for the marine facilities within the project. The first two jackets were safely and efficiently transferred from the manufacturing site to a marine transport barge, adhering to the approved schedule and following the highest safety and quality standards. They were then towed 160 kilometers offshore and precisely installed on the seabed by the NMDC-owned vessel, “Sfin-3000.”

This achievement demonstrates the high level of coordination and technical proficiency exhibited by the project teams and partners, ensuring the jackets were securely installed and ready for the next phase of marine infrastructure development.

The Hail and Ghasha development project is the largest offshore gas project globally, significantly contributing to the UAE’s goal of achieving self-sufficiency in natural gas and boosting exports of this vital resource.

The Ghasha concession is expected to produce approximately 1.5 billion standard cubic feet of natural gas daily, equating to the total daily gas demand of Ireland, Greece, and Portugal combined.

The initiative aims for net-zero emissions by capturing 1.5 million tons of CO2 annually, which is comparable to removing over 300,000 traditional fuel-powered vehicles from the roads.

Musabbeh Al Kaabi, CEO of ADNOC’s Exploration, Development and Production sector, noted that the Hail and Ghasha project is a critical pillar in the UAE’s drive towards natural gas self-sufficiency. He highlighted that the completion of the marine facility foundations represents an essential step towards achieving the project’s objectives. He also emphasized that the full execution of this project will stimulate industrial growth and enhance the nation’s advanced manufacturing capabilities.

It is important to mention that the Hail and Ghasha development aligns with the goals of the “Make in the Emirates” initiative. It reflects ADNOC’s success in enhancing local content within the industrial sector by focusing on supporting domestic manufacturing and sourcing products from local suppliers, thus contributing to economic diversification. To date, through supporting and developing local talents, 118 Emirati graduates have been employed in vital roles within this global project, providing significant job opportunities for citizens.
