Activation of Maritime Traffic Management Measures During New Year’s Celebrations

The Dubai Maritime Authority, part of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, has announced the activation of its final operational plan to manage maritime traffic during the New Year’s Eve celebrations of 2026. This initiative aims to enhance maritime safety and ensure the smooth movement of marine vessels in the waters of Dubai during peak times.

Implementation Schedule

The authority confirmed that the plan will be executed starting from the evening of Wednesday, December 31, 2025, and will be in effect from 10 PM on December 31, 2025, until 2 AM on January 1, 2026. This will involve comprehensive operational measures to regulate maritime traffic in densely populated areas, particularly around Dubai Marina, Dubai Harbour, and Palm Jumeirah.

Key Elements of the Plan

The operational plan includes:

– A one-way navigation system before and after midnight.
– A temporary navigation ban during the time transition.
– Closing maritime traffic beneath the Palm Jumeirah bridges during peak hours from 10 PM on December 31 to 2 AM on January 1.
– Classifying marine vessels by size, outlining clear routes, and establishing mandatory time windows for each category to ensure fluid movement and minimize congestion and collision risks.

Ensuring Smooth Traffic Flow

Dr. Sheikh Said bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Dubai Maritime Authority, stated that the implementation of this operational plan during New Year’s Eve 2026 reflects the authority’s commitment to upholding the highest maritime safety standards. He emphasized the importance of maintaining smooth maritime movements in busy areas to align with Dubai’s reputation as a global celebrations and events hub. He further noted that monitoring and patrol teams will operate around the clock in coordination with relevant authorities to ensure compliance with issued directives and to address any violations promptly according to regulations.

Weather Conditions

The authority advised all marine vessel operators and yacht enthusiasts to carefully assess the current and anticipated weather conditions before and during any maritime activities due to the possibility of unstable weather on New Year’s Eve 2026. It stressed that all marine vessel owners, maritime agents, marinas, yacht clubs, and recreational boat operators must fully adhere to the operational plan and instructions to guarantee a safe and well-organized maritime environment for everyone to enjoy the celebrations safely.

Coordination Workshop

The Dubai Maritime Authority held a specialized coordination workshop with strategic partners and marinas in Dubai as part of executing the final operational plan. The workshop reviewed operational readiness and institutional integration to ensure maritime safety during the New Year’s Eve celebrations in the emirate’s waters. It included discussions on maritime routes and timings, traffic flow management, and the planning of marine movements, along with an evaluation of the arrangements for monitoring and coordination among stakeholders.

During the workshop, the docking rules and designated marine areas were clarified, and monitoring compliance mechanisms and penalties for violators were discussed. Additionally, the protocols for communication and emergency procedures were reviewed, along with the identification of potential maritime congestion areas. The commitment to enforcing regulations governing marine vessel movement during the New Year’s Eve operations in 2026 was also reinforced to ensure the highest levels of safety and traffic fluidity.
