DP World Begins Construction of the “Piberry” Logistics Corridor in Pakistan

DP World, in collaboration with Pakistan Railways and the National Logistics Cell (NLC), has officially commenced construction of a freight corridor and a multi-modal logistics center in the Bibery area, following a groundbreaking ceremony held on site.

The initiative aims to enhance cargo connections between the ports of Karachi and internal markets in Pakistan by shifting container transport from roadways to rail.

The ceremony was attended by Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Railways, Haneef Abbasi, along with Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman and CEO of DP World, and several senior officials from the NLC, Pakistan Railways, and related ports and terminals.

This joint venture focuses on developing a comprehensive logistics and railway center to improve the speed, reliability, and efficiency of import and export operations.

Phase one of the project involves rehabilitating a 52-kilometer railway corridor linking the Karachi port to the consolidation yard in Bibery, as well as the construction of a state-of-the-art multi-modal logistics complex.

The Bibery facility will integrate railway, road, and port operations into a single logistics hub, offering a complete range of services including warehousing, loading and unloading, cargo consolidation, and value-added logistics solutions. Completion of this initial phase is anticipated within four months.

Once operational, the new facility is expected to significantly alleviate congestion at Karachi’s ports, divert heavy container traffic away from the city’s roads, reduce logistics costs and transit times, lower carbon emissions, and extend the lifespan of essential road infrastructure.

Containers arriving in Karachi will be directly transported by rail to Bibery, from where goods will be dispatched via rail and road to various destinations across Pakistan, as well as to China, Central Asia, and other regional markets. Similarly, Pakistani export shipments will utilize the reverse route back to the ports of Karachi.

The project is poised to streamline cargo handling operations in Bibery, thereby reducing trucking congestion in Karachi, which is Pakistan’s largest city, and improving response times throughout the supply chain.

Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem stated that this initiative reflects DP World’s long-term commitment to developing world-class commercial infrastructure and resilient supply chains that connect markets more efficiently. By integrating the infrastructure of railways, roads, and ports, the freight corridor and multi-modal logistics area in Bibery will enhance commercial flow efficiency, support sustainable logistics, and strengthen Pakistan’s role as a key regional trade gateway.

Prior to this, in January 2025, DP World, NLC, and Pakistan Railways had signed a memorandum of understanding, followed by a commercial agreement in the last quarter of the same year.
