Fly Dubai Expands Its Presence in Romania by Launching Flights to Iasi

FlyDubai has officially launched its flights to Iași, Romania, marking it as the first Emirati airline to operate direct flights from Dubai to this city. With the new service running twice a week, FlyDubai expands its operations in Romania to two destinations, including Bucharest. Additionally, the airline will increase its flights to Bucharest to three daily, bringing its total operations in the market to 21 weekly flights.

The inaugural flight was greeted at Iași International Airport with traditional water cannon salutes and warm welcomes from local officials, airport representatives, and media personnel.

Jeyhun Efendi, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations and E-Commerce at FlyDubai, stated, “Romania has always been a significant market for us, and since launching our flights in 2012, we have seen substantial growth, with passenger numbers increasing by 16% annually to Bucharest. We have expanded our connections from three flights a week to three daily, reflecting the rising demand for travel between the UAE and Romania, as well as beyond.”

Efendi further emphasized, “By launching Iași as our second destination in Romania and increasing our expected flights to Bucharest by the end of October, we are confident that these services will offer our customers greater convenience and more opportunities to experience the country’s culture and business prospects. Starting with twice-weekly services to Iași, we are thrilled to open up another underserved market for our customers to explore and will monitor the growing interest in this destination in the years to come.”

Romeo Vatra, General Manager of Iași Airport, remarked, “The introduction of direct FlyDubai flights between Iași and Dubai is a significant milestone for our airport, as it provides travelers with wider travel options and enhances Iași Airport’s role as an international gateway for the entire region. Currently, Iași Airport is the only one in the Moldova region offering direct flights to the UAE. We are pleased to welcome FlyDubai to Iași and thank them for their confidence in choosing our city. We look forward to building a long-term and valuable partnership benefiting both travelers and the community.”

Iași is recognized as the cultural capital of Romania, boasting numerous historical and cultural landmarks for tourists to explore. Highlights include the Palace of Culture, which houses four museums that visitors can easily spend days wandering through, the Metropolitan Cathedral, an exquisite church in Italian Renaissance style, and the oldest theater in Romania, the Vasile Alecsandri National Theatre.

On September 17, FlyDubai had launched flights to Chișinău, the capital of Moldova, marking it as its latest European destination. Starting in December, both Vilnius in Lithuania and Riga in Latvia will be added to FlyDubai’s growing global network.
