A delegation from Abu Dhabi Customs, led by Rashid Lahej Al-Mansoori, the Director General of Abu Dhabi Customs, held a meeting with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) – New York Office at their headquarters in the World Trade Center in Manhattan. This meeting was part of the economic delegation’s visit from Abu Dhabi to the United States.
Upon arrival, the delegation was welcomed by Francis Russo, the Operations Director at CBP. The meeting focused on exchanging insights and experiences regarding best customs practices and exploring future collaboration, particularly in the areas of digital transformation and the application of emerging technologies to facilitate global trade.
The two sides discussed the significance of integrating artificial intelligence and advanced technology into customs operations to enhance performance efficiency and achieve a balance between trade facilitation and regulatory enforcement. Additionally, Abu Dhabi Customs presented its experience with the pilot project of the “Trusted Digital Trade Lane,” along with the U.S. system for managing customs brokers.
Al-Mansoori stated, “This meeting marks a significant milestone in the cooperation between Abu Dhabi Customs and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. By exchanging expertise and the latest innovations, especially in digital transformation and trade facilitation, we can develop customs operations that are safer, more efficient, and better prepared for the future, ultimately serving the interests of both nations and supporting global supply chain stability and efficiency.”
On his part, Francis Russo warmly welcomed the delegation to the New York Operations Office, emphasizing that this constructive exchange showcases the strength of the partnership between the two agencies. Sharing best practices in technology, regulatory oversight, and trade facilitation represents added value, enabling both sides to address modern global trade challenges and seize opportunities collaboratively.
This visit aims to enhance cooperation between the UAE Customs and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, opening new avenues for partnership in advanced technology application, improving shipping procedures, and developing trustworthy trade channels between the UAE and the United States.
