The Abu Dhabi Customs Department unveiled its AI-based customs clearance solution, “Clearance.AI,” during its participation in the GITEX Global 2025 exhibition, showcasing its commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies for a faster and more transparent customs experience. This initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi’s goal to become the first government globally to fully adopt artificial intelligence, following the Abu Dhabi Digital Government Strategy for 2025-2027.
In its initial phase, the Clearance.AI solutions automate four customs processes to enhance productivity and operational efficiency. Key features include self-clearance for unrestricted goods, allowing users to scan invoices and supporting documents with their smart devices or upload files. The system automatically extracts and verifies data, completes clearance requests, and sends notifications to relevant stakeholders.
The solutions also include intelligent valuation of goods, which involves comparing declared values with global and local benchmark prices to ensure accuracy and compliance. Additionally, it validates customs registration numbers by reviewing document authenticity and sorting registration requests that need further scrutiny, sending automatic alerts for processing. Post-clearance audits are another key feature, facilitating real-time and smart analysis of incoming customs transactions to identify discrepancies and forecast future trends, thus enhancing customs compliance.
Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, the General Director of Abu Dhabi Customs, emphasized that the launch of these innovative solutions reflects the leadership’s directives and its diligent pursuit of integrating AI technologies across applicable systems. This is part of ongoing efforts to solidify Abu Dhabi’s leadership in adopting advanced technologies within government customs operations.
He noted that this initiative represents a significant advancement in the evolution of customs operations, supporting the broader goals of comprehensive digital transformation. By utilizing the latest technological advancements and AI solutions, it aims to improve productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness in customs services, ultimately simplifying procedures and enhancing performance to create a more seamless trade experience for businesses and individual importers.
