The Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi has teamed up with the distribution company “Taqa” to launch the “Barq” project, aimed at establishing a high-speed charging station network known for its reliability. This initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi’s vision of promoting sustainable transportation backed by advanced infrastructure to foster environmental sustainability and enhance the quality of life.
The project will see the installation of 50 high-capacity charging units (360 kW) at strategic locations such as the Saadiyat Lighthouse, the Port Market, Burjeel Hospital in Mohammed bin Zayed City, and various sites in Al Ain, including the UAE University, Tawam Hospital, Al Ain Mall, and the City Mall in Zayed City in the Al Dhafra region.
These charging stations will offer the ability to recharge for 100 kilometers in about three minutes, providing a fast and reliable charging experience for users. Additionally, the fourth charge will be free of charge after every three charging sessions. The first phase of the charging points is set to be operational by January 13, 2026, in conjunction with the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, with all stations free to use throughout that week.
