The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been actively working to strengthen economic ties and create sustainable partnerships between the business communities of Sharjah and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. This initiative aims to enhance bilateral trade and investment, ultimately leading to significant growth that serves mutual interests.
This discussion occurred during a business meeting held at the headquarters of the Sharjah Chamber, where Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Chamber, met with Saiyavong Kummasith, Deputy Prime Minister of Laos, along with his accompanying delegation. The meeting also featured Oudet Souphanavong, President of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Laos, and Abdulaziz Al Shamsi, Assistant General Manager of the Communication and Business Sector at the Sharjah Chamber, as well as various business leaders and private sector representatives from Sharjah and Laos.
During the gathering, both sides emphasized the importance of exploring investment opportunities and establishing direct communication links between their business communities. This cooperation would foster collaboration across various sectors of mutual interest. Sharjah offers significant prospects in industries such as manufacturing, logistics, trade, tourism, education, and the new economy, while Laos presents considerable economic potential in agriculture, energy, mining, tourism, and manufacturing.
Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding
The meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Sharjah Chamber and the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Laos. This agreement aims to bolster trade relations and facilitate economic collaboration between the business communities of both nations. Key provisions of the MoU include the exchange of information to promote investment growth, the organization of joint trade delegations, and the dissemination of commercial publications through digital platforms. Additionally, it focuses on promoting available investment opportunities, sharing expertise and training resources, and cooperating in participation at exhibitions, seminars, business meetings, and specialized conferences held in both countries.
Diverse Partnerships
At the start of the meeting, Abdullah Sultan Al Owais warmly welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister of Laos and his delegation, reaffirming the Sharjah Chamber’s commitment to supporting the emirate’s strategic vision in diversifying its economic partnerships and enhancing its commercial and investment presence on the global stage. He highlighted that Sharjah offers a favorable and stimulating investment environment, complemented by advanced infrastructure, flexible regulations, specialized free zones, and a strategic geographic location that connects regional and global markets.
In response, Saiyavong Kummasith expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and praised the leading role of the Sharjah Chamber in supporting the private sector and facilitating a conducive business environment. He underscored Laos’s intention to strengthen economic and investment cooperation with Sharjah, noting Laos’s strategic location in the heart of the ASEAN region, which positions it as a gateway for Emirati investors into Southeast Asian markets. He highlighted the promising investment opportunities in agriculture, energy, mining, tourism, and manufacturing, paving the way for fruitful partnerships between the business sectors of both countries.
Subsequently, bilateral meetings were held among participating business leaders, showcasing areas and opportunities for collaboration, particularly in food security and agricultural manufacturing, taking advantage of Laos’s natural resources and fertile agricultural land, as well as sectors like real estate development, eco-tourism, technology, and digital transformation, in conjunction with utilizing the legislative facilities and existing relationships between the two nations.
