Sharjah Airport Welcomes SpiceJet to Its Airline Network, Strengthening Air Connectivity with India

Sharjah International Airport has announced the launch of a new scheduled air service by Indian airline SpiceJet, connecting Ahmedabad International Airport with Sharjah Airport. This initiative highlights the airport’s ongoing efforts to expand its international destination network and enhance air transport links between the UAE and India, facilitating business travel, tourism, and family visits between the two nations.

According to the announced schedule, flights commenced as of yesterday, operating five times a week and utilizing Boeing 737 aircraft. This new route is expected to meet the growing travel demand and offer more flexible and comfortable options for travelers between the two locations.

The inclusion of Ahmedabad in Sharjah Airport’s destination network is part of the airport’s strategy to broaden its international presence and attract more airlines, particularly from high-growth markets like India, which is a significant source of inbound and outbound travelers.

Ali Salem Al Mudfa, Chairman of Sharjah International Airport Authority, expressed his enthusiasm for the new SpiceJet flights from Ahmedabad. He indicated that the addition of this route is in line with the authority’s continuous efforts to enhance passenger experience by providing diverse travel options and efficient operational services.

He elaborated that the airport continues to invest in developing its facilities and smart services to ensure smooth processes and swift movement within the airport, thereby increasing passenger satisfaction and accommodating the rising number of travelers.

Al Mudfa also mentioned that the authority is committed to forming long-term strategic partnerships with airlines, which will help open new cooperation avenues and expand the destination network, reflecting the airport’s vision to establish itself as a regional travel hub that combines high service quality, operational efficiency, and a seamless experience for passengers.

Debojo Maharshi, the Chief Commercial Officer of SpiceJet, stated that the introduction of their new service between Ahmedabad and Sharjah is a significant addition to SpiceJet’s international network, reflecting the strong and growing demand for travel between India and the UAE. Sharjah has long been an important destination for Indian travelers, whether for business, tourism, or family visits, and this new service will provide them with a reliable and convenient travel option. He looks forward to closely collaborating with Sharjah International Airport Authority as they continue to strengthen their presence in the region and expand air connectivity with major Indian cities.

The launch of this route is part of the ongoing expansion of Sharjah Airport’s destination network, which has recently added several new destinations, including Krabi, Munich, Prague, Warsaw Modlin, Vienna, Addis Ababa, and Sochi. Direct flights to London are also expected to commence in March.

In 2025, Sharjah Airport successfully expanded its network to exceed 100 global destinations with the addition of four new international airlines and the launch of further services. Significant enhancements in operational processes have also accelerated passenger movement and reduced waiting times.

Sharjah International Airport Authority reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating closely with its airline partners to continuously develop the network and provide a distinguished, seamless, and efficient travel experience for all passengers.
