Dubai International Airport recorded over 4.89 million scheduled seats on international departures in February 2025, compared to approximately 4.78 million seats during the same month in 2024. This impressive figure positions it as the leading airport worldwide in total seating capacity (including both international and domestic flights), with a margin of 297,000 seats ahead of its closest competitor, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, according to the monthly report from OAG, a global provider of airport and airline data.
For the second consecutive month at the start of 2025, Dubai International outperformed Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International.
In second place, Atlanta recorded a capacity of 4.59 million seats, reflecting a modest annual growth of 1%. Meanwhile, Shanghai Pudong Airport climbed to third place, driven by a robust 7% increase, reaching 4.27 million seats. Conversely, Tokyo Haneda Airport fell to fourth place, with its capacity decreasing by 1% year-over-year, totaling 4.18 million seats.
The data revealed significant growth among several Asian airports, notably Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, which recorded one of the highest growth rates in the top ten with a 15% increase, reaching 4.16 million seats and securing fifth place. Delhi Airport also showed a solid growth performance, achieving a 7% rise to 3.87 million seats, placing it sixth.
London Heathrow Airport maintained its position in seventh place, with a seating capacity of 3.85 million seats, showing no significant change from the previous year. Chicago O’Hare entered the top ten, taking eighth place with a strong 15% increase, totaling 3.71 million seats.
Istanbul Airport experienced a moderate growth of 2%, reaching 3.684 million seats, while Dallas/Fort Worth rounded out the list with a stable capacity of 3.682 million seats, unchanged from February 2025.
Dubai International also retained its title as the world’s largest airport in terms of seating capacity for international flights alone in February, surpassing London Heathrow, which recorded 3.6 million seats, positioned second. Seoul came in third with approximately 3.55 million seats, while Singapore and Amsterdam claimed the fourth and fifth spots, respectively, with roughly 3.4 million and 3.2 million seats each.
This remarkable performance reflects the ongoing momentum Dubai International has experienced since the beginning of 2025, fueled by continuous growth in international travel demand, an expansion of air connectivity, and an increased number of destinations and flights operated by both national and international airlines through Dubai.
This achievement, marking a second consecutive month of superiority, highlights the pivotal role of the airport as a primary gateway for travel between the East and West, along with being a highly efficient global transit hub with growing capacity.
This success comes during a time of fierce competition in the global aviation industry among the largest international airports, particularly in Asia and North America, making the lead achieved by Dubai International a clear indicator of strong demand and sustainable growth.
