The Kimberley Process has announced the appointment of Maryam Al Hashimi as the Chair of Participation and Leadership for the year 2026. Al Hashimi is recognized as a prominent and seasoned leader within the Kimberley Process, possessing extensive experience that qualifies her for this pivotal role.
India will assume the presidency of the Kimberley Process in 2026, marking its third term since the establishment of the initiative, with a focus on building consumer trust, enhancing digital traceability, and developing data-driven compliance. Currently, Al Hashimi serves as the Senior Director of Precious Stones and Metals at the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre.
As the Director of the Kimberley Process office in the UAE, she has played a crucial role in establishing Dubai as a leading global hub for diamond trade. Under her leadership, the trade of both rough and polished diamonds in Dubai has exceeded one billion carats over the past five years.
She also oversees the Dubai Diamond Exchange, the world’s largest trading platform for diamonds, which comprises over 1,365 members. Al Hashimi is at the forefront of key events in the sector, including the Dubai Diamond Conference and the Dubai Precious Metals Conference. Leveraging her in-depth experience in diamond trading, she leads the only Kimberley Process office worldwide with ISO certification and has been instrumental in managing the sole entry and exit point for rough diamonds in the UAE.
Her contributions reflect her extensive expertise in the Kimberley Process, having previously held the position of Vice Chair in 2015, and Chair in 2016 and 2024. She also served as the Chair of Participation and Leadership in 2017.
The appointment of Maryam Al Hashimi underscores her ongoing efforts and deep commitment to enhancing the structure of the Kimberley Process. Her leadership is anticipated to further solidify the initiative’s goals and promote responsible diamond trade globally.
