Dubai Ports Authority Joins the International Association of Ports and Harbors IAPH

The Dubai Ports Authority, a subsidiary of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, has officially joined the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) as a regular member. This move highlights Dubai’s commitment to enhancing its presence in influential international platforms within the port industry and its role in fostering a more sustainable, efficient, and resilient maritime system.

Through this membership, the Dubai Ports Authority aims to strengthen its collaboration and knowledge exchange with over 90 countries in the global port community. It will also engage in the association’s initiatives and programs focused on emissions reduction, energy transition, digital solutions, and data coordination across the maritime supply chain, while improving readiness, risk management, and operational resilience.

Sustainability

Captain Ibrahim Al Bloushi, the Executive Director of the Dubai Ports Authority, emphasized that this decision extends Dubai’s efforts to enhance its position in the global maritime ecosystem and broaden avenues for cooperation and partnerships with international entities. This will support the sustainability of the sector and improve supply chain efficiency. He affirmed that this step reinforces Dubai’s competitiveness as an innovative maritime hub prepared for the future, aiding in the development of a sustainable sector.

He remarked, “Joining the IAPH represents a significant milestone in our journey to enhance integration with the global maritime ecosystem, exchange best practices, and support our priorities in safety, digital transformation, and sustainability. Our membership allows us to contribute to the development of international port standards.” He added that this move reflects Dubai’s commitment to developing safe and efficient port operations aligned with global best practices, contributing to the emirate’s competitiveness and advancing maritime standards on the international scene.

Al Bloushi also noted that joining IAPH opens new opportunities for strategic partnerships and joint projects. It enhances Dubai Ports’ ability to adapt to rapid changes in global supply chains, adopt smart solutions, and leverage advanced technologies, thereby improving port readiness, business continuity, and customer experiences through more flexible, faster, and reliable services.

The Dubai Ports Authority oversees three major ports in the emirate: Jebel Ali Port, Hamriya Port, and Port Rashid, along with Dubai Maritime City and Dubai World Terminals. The authority works diligently to elevate the status of these ports to make them among the best globally through infrastructure development, operational regulation, enhanced inspection and monitoring systems, and service updates that reflect the best international practices in the field.

The Dubai Ports Authority’s admission to the IAPH signifies a high level of coordination between the authority and global entities operating within the port sector. It strengthens the authority’s capability to address any developments or challenges in this critical area efficiently and effectively, in line with the best global practices in infrastructure development, operational management, and maritime emergency response.

This membership aligns with Dubai’s vision to enhance its ports as growth and trade engines and as advanced centers for competitiveness, sustainability, and innovation through international partnerships that accelerate transformation and support the adoption of standards and solutions that enhance operational efficiency while ensuring the sector’s resilience in the face of change.
