Ajman Economic: 588 Home Projects Under the ‘Leadership’ Program

Ahmad Khair Al-Balushi, the Director of Business Development at the Department of Economic Development in Ajman, highlighted that the “Riyada” program has significantly contributed to the growth of home-based businesses in the emirate. This initiative has established a flexible regulatory environment supporting citizens, particularly women, youth, and productive families, allowing them to transform their skills into sustainable economic activities within a structured legal framework.

He noted that the program offers a comprehensive package of incentives and facilities, the most notable of which includes providing home licenses free of charge for three years. Additionally, it allows free participation in marketing initiatives, exhibitions, local events, as well as specialized training workshops and feasibility study services, empowering entrepreneurs to launch confidently and enhance their chances of success in the market.

Al-Balushi explained that the interest in home-based projects has seen a remarkable increase in recent years, with the number of home licenses issued under the program reaching 588 projects, marking a growth rate of 39%. This trend reflects the rising culture of self-employment and individuals’ shift towards establishing low-cost, scalable small businesses.

He also mentioned that the licensing process for home businesses is fully electronic through the department’s smart platforms, starting from selecting the activity and submitting the application to attaching documents and paying fees. He pointed out that a license can be issued within one business day if all requirements are met, thereby enhancing business ease and saving time and effort for applicants.

Al-Balushi emphasized the vital role of home licenses in bolstering the local economy, as they enable individuals to enter the labor market officially. They contribute to diversifying products and services and stimulate economic activities. Additionally, these licenses help families diversify their income sources without the need for significant capital, which enhances financial stability and improves living standards, while also supporting women’s participation in the economic sector in a flexible work environment suited to their family responsibilities.

He noted that these projects also help reduce unemployment by creating self-employment opportunities and promoting a culture of entrepreneurship. Many home-based businesses have the potential to evolve into small and medium-sized enterprises capable of providing additional jobs and contributing to economic growth.

Al-Balushi acknowledged that home business owners face challenges related to marketing, managing demand, and adhering to health regulations for certain activities, as well as hurdles in future expansion plans. He confirmed that the department is addressing these challenges through training programs, specialized consulting services, and providing marketing and exhibition platforms, along with increasing awareness of regulatory guidelines to ensure the success and sustainability of these projects.
